Body fat percentage prediction in older adults: Agreement between anthropometric equations and DXA

چکیده

BackgroundIt is difficult to measure body fat percentage in clinical settings. Equations using anthropometric measures are more feasible and can be used estimate fat. However, there a need analyze their accuracy older adults. Our study aims validate the use of equations men women.MethodsThis evaluated data from 127 Brazilian individuals aged between 60 91 years. Weight, height, skinfold thickness waist hip circumferences were measured. Seventeen tested crossed validity criteria suggested by Lohman graph analysis proposed Bland Altman Lin was also performed. New percentage body fat prediction equations for Japanese females.

Anthropometry is a simple and cost-efficient method for the assessment of body composition. However prediction equations to estimate body composition using anthropometry should be 'population-specific'. Most popular body composition prediction equations for Japanese females were proposed more than 40 years ago and there is some concern regarding their usefulness in Japanese females living today...

Body Fat Percentage in Active and Inactive Students Using Anthropometric Parameters

Introduction: Complications of obesity and high fat in children are grave now and future. The aim of this research is comparing percentage of body fat in active and inactive girls using Anthropometric Parameters.Materials and Methods: This research is descriptive- correlation that 144 active(n= 70) and inactive(n= 74) girls aged 8 to 10 years old were selected by random cluster sampling method ...

Body mass index and serum leptin concentration independently estimate percentage body fat in older adults.

BACKGROUND Because serum concentrations of leptin, a hormone produced by adipocytes, can be relatively reliably and inexpensively measured, it may be considered complementary to, or even a substitute for, body mass index (BMI) as a measure of adiposity. OBJECTIVE We examined the ability of BMI and leptin concentrations, separately and together, to estimate total percentage fat in older adults...

Body composition and prediction equations using skinfold thickness for body fat percentage in Southern Brazilian adolescents

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to: a) determine the nutritional status of Brazilian adolescents, and; b) present a skinfold thickness model (ST) to estimate body fat developed with Brazilian samples, using dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) as reference method. METHODS The main study group was composed of 374 adolescents, and further 42 adolescents for the validation group. Weig...

Prediction of whole-body fat percentage and visceral adipose tissue mass from five anthropometric variables

BACKGROUND The conventional measurement of obesity utilises the body mass index (BMI) criterion. Although there are benefits to this method, there is concern that not all individuals at risk of obesity-associated medical conditions are being identified. Whole-body fat percentage (%FM), and specifically visceral adipose tissue (VAT) mass, are correlated with and potentially implicated in disease...
